House for Journalism and the Public Sphere

Welcome to Haus Publix – a centre for innovation in journalism and for the public sphere!

Dear visitor,

We warmly welcome you to Haus Publix – a unique place that opened its doors in September 2024. Publix is a workplace for around 350 people from over 30 non profit organisations representing the broad spectrum of public opinion forming.

In addition to secure workplaces, the building offers a modern co-working space, several event rooms, a guesthouse and production studios for rent. The ground floor is a meeting place – open to guests and neighbours. The canteen offers quality lunches and snacks for coworkers and visitors. Publix is also an event venue that hosts public events such as the Publix Thursdays (book presentations, panels or discussions about important topics for the society.)

You are in Berlin – a city where history is palpable and which is simultaneously shaped by the present and the future. Germany´s capital fascinates with its tension between tradition and modernity. Its turbulent past, especially the period of division, is still recognisable in the cityscape today.

In recent decades, Berlin has developed into a centre for creativity and innovation. Trendy neighbourhoods such as Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg are known for their alternative culture, art galleries and vibrant music scene. But there is also much to discover away from the well-known places – such as the diverse district of Neukölln.

Neukölln is a lively district that is constantly changing. One of its special features is its diversity: people from different backgrounds and with different lifestyles meet here every day, and you can hear over 50 languages spoken on the streets. International markets, restaurants and shops characterise the district.

The area around Schillerpromenade offers cosy cafés and trendy restaurants. Neukölln is also a creative hotspot with many art galleries, study groups and innovative projects. The streets are a canvas for graffiti and street art.

Another highlight is Tempelhofer Feld. The former airport area has been transformed into a huge park. Whether for sports, picnics or simply relaxing, there is something for everyone here.
