Forum Fairer Handel: Annual Conference: Fair Trade in Times of Global Decline in Solidarity

There are numerous places, initiatives, and movements where people are working together to bring about positive change and develop alternatives to the existing economic and trade system. Yet they operate in an increasingly challenging environment: In times of a worsening climate crisis and growing concerns about social justice, we are witnessing a decline in global solidarity, a retreat into national interests, and a breakdown of international cooperation. 
This makes it more difficult to establish solidarity-based economic models such as Fair Trade. To bring about meaningful change, we need examples of successful initiatives that demonstrate how transformation can be achieved in practice. But how can these serve as a springboard for broader societal transformation?

To mark its 20th anniversary, Forum Fairer Handel e.V. is inviting representatives of various solidarity-based initiatives and alternative economic models to this year’s annual conference to discuss the role these approaches can play in the necessary socio-ecological transformation and how they need to adapt in light of current challenges. To set the stage for the discussion, Markus Wissen will begin by offering a critical analysis of the current socio-ecological crisis.

Participants will then have the opportunity to learn about different solidarity-based alternatives and engage in dialogue with one another. The aim of the conference is to generate shared ideas, strengthen cooperation, and create new momentum for future action.

The event will conclude with a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Forum Fairer Handel e.V., providing an opportunity for participants to continue the exchange and raise a toast to the occasion.
