What is allowed to be said in German schools - and what is not? Who decides which topics are important? School newspapers are places where young people can find their own voice, try out journalism and have their say when it comes to school, society or politics.
But how does this work in the age of TikTok, Instagram and online news? This talk is about school newspapers as a platform for freedom of expression and co-determination. We will show examples from the state school newspaper competition, talk about the challenges faced in everyday life and ask: How much influence can school newspapers have today?
After a brief input, we will talk to editorial staff from the Berlin school newspapers Karlchen from Neukölln and Lux Looks about setting topics, taking a stance and the question of how much criticism schools can take.
