Thilo Bode is one of the most vocal voices in civil society: as the founder of Foodwatch and former director of Greenpeace, he has spent decades taking on food corporations, the financial industry, and those responsible for international trade agreements. Now, in his new book “Resist! A Call to Resistance – Memoirs of a Political Activist,” he looks back on his experiences with self-criticism, combativeness, and a clear appeal: civil society must become more determined if it really wants to change society.
In conversation with Helene Bubrowski, deputy editor-in-chief at Table.Briefings and former political journalist at the FAZ, Thilo Bode talks about activism in the field of tension between politics, the public sphere, and power interests, about the opportunities for sustainable change, and why his retrospective is also a wake-up call for future generations.
