Floods, heatwaves, droughts, forest fires - the effects of increasingly extreme weather are also increasingly being felt in this country. But all this is just the beginning: because the 1.5 degree limit can no longer be maintained and global warming is continuing, several so-called tipping points in the climate system are at risk of being exceeded in the near future. The consequences would be drastic, including for Germany. Benjamin von Brackel and Toralf Staud provide what you really need to know about tipping points. They describe the decades of research into tipping points, their possible consequences and the controversies among experts - one of the greatest detective stories of our time, the outcome of which will decide nothing less than the fate of our civilization. The authors take us on a journey around the world to the most important tipping points in the Earth system: from the icy landscapes of the poles to Europe's hot water heating system and the Amazon rainforest. They explain how our earth - and climate science - works.

In an interview with their editor Ilka Heinemann, Benjamin von Brackel and Toralf Staud describe how their book came about and provide insights into their research on climate tipping points. Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider will present the book and talk about political conclusions. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to network and exchange ideas over drinks.
