How Mastodon works - an introduction to the decentralised social media alternative

In view of the monopoly position of the major social media platforms, more and more people are looking for alternatives. Mastodon is one option. The idea: anyone can post on Mastodon, follow others and chat with them, just like on other platforms, but everyone has more control over their data and can choose a server that suits them.

Data Scientist Johannes Filter and Zora Steiner from Mastodon will introduce us to Mastodon in this workshop and start a practical session straight away: together with the participants, we will create accounts on an instance, publish our first posts and interact with each other - e.g. through reposts and comments. This will give everyone a feel for the platform.
