Meet the residents: Are We Europe
In each newsletter issue, we present an organisation that works at Publix. This time: Sabrina Faramarzi, Managing Director of Are We Europe. They just launched the Full Stack Journalism Podcast.

What's your goal?
We want to help support the production of journalism and stories that actually represent the diversity of Europe – for all, not the few.
What is the core of your work?
Are We Europe is an independent multimedia platform for innovation & design thinking at the intersection of journalism and creative media. Striving for a more resilient and inclusive European media space, we develop opportunities that shape, diversify and strengthen the European media space. And we execute editorial projects that challenge media conventions. As a media collective made up of multi-disciplinary creatives and journalists across Europe, we run a number of projects, design sprints and workshops that train the next generation of diverse media makers through our inclusive programme, Designing Europe’s Media for All.
What gives you a headache?
When journalists make journalism for other journalists – not the general public.
What has been your greatest success in recent months?
We launched our MigraVoice Magazine, which is comprised of stories from 15 journalists from around the world about their migration journey in Europe. We selected their pitches from over 100 applications, trained them, mentored them, and provided grants to help them produce their stories. This was part of the MigraVoice project, with the goal to build the biggest database of experts and journalists from a migration background.
What is your contribution to a pluralistic media landscape?
Our programme – Designing Europe's Media for All – is an ambitious programme at the intersection of journalism, design thinking, cross-border collaboration, ethical entrepreneurship and transformative business models. DEMA is building an inclusive network of independent media hubs across Europe, making innovation accessible to emerging and underrepresented media ecosystems. We already have 8 hubs across Europe – Tbilisi, Porto, Vilnius, Lyon, Gothenburg, Cluj-Napoca, Naples & Belgrade – and our big goal is to have set up at least one local media hub in all 44 European countries by 2030.
Which journalistic project has impressed you the most recently?
Not a piece of journalism but the Centre for Information Resilience's map on Gaza has been an invaluable resource for journalists and reporters everywhere.
What does journalism urgently need?
More journalists from different backgrounds, more stories on the people and communities that matter and the implementation of a hefty tax on big tech platforms who profit off our journalistic content.
What should you listen to or watch now?
Our Full Stack Journalism podcast! A a space for debates and deep dives into the challenges, solutions and alternatives to holding big tech accountable while producing critical and independent journalism. As a live format at Publix or on Youtube.
What do you wish for the Publix initiative?
That we build a strong safety net for one another to be able to be resilient enough to weather the storms ahead.
